Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a partner?
No, many people come without partners and end up dancing the night away. If you take a lesson, you will rotate partners throughout the lesson.
Are the dances easy to learn?
Our instructors are very patient individuals who will work with you to help you learn the dances.
What styles of dance are taught?
We teach four different dances: East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, and salsa.
I have never danced before. What dance should I do?
We recommend that you start with East Coast Swing or salsa. West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop are sometimes more difficult to learn and therefore we suggest you start by learning the fundamentals of partner dancing in the other dances first.
How many people come to the lessons?
It varies; some days we have 20-30 people in a lesson, while other days we have 5-10 people.
Will I meet new people? What is the atmosphere like?
You will definitely meet new people. We have a few couples that have come about as the result of our dance and many new friendships. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly.
How should I dress?
You should dress in clothing that you will feel comfortable in for a night of dancing. Most people dress casually.
Do I need special shoes?
No, you will be able to dance without any special type of shoe, as long as the pair you bring are clean and dry. We recommend that men try not to wear shoes with rubber soles, although it isn't a huge concern. Most women's shoes seem to work fine. The soles of the shoes affect your ability to turn or spin.
What if I'm not comfortable learning to dance around other people?
Just remember that everyone was a beginner once. If you're really shy about this, we do offer private lessons as well; talk to the instructor for the dance you're interested in.
What type of music is played at the dance?
Our DJs play a variety of swing, salsa, and ballroom music, including music for waltz, hustle, cha-cha, foxtrot, country two-step etc. The DJs are always open to requests as well.
Do you have dance instructors that I can hire for a party or wedding?
Yes, talk to the instructor for your dance of choice.
